Descent is bubbling away in the rest of the world (RoW) division. The autocratic regime of superclub Beijing is under threat. The Chinese has dominated the region, winning seven divisional titles in a row. Led by legendary manager Ivo, it’s an impressive run, albeit against weak competition in recent seasons. Not even Chlef, which one the Wes Cup last season, has been able to stop the Chinese giants.
However, this season could be different. Australian club Sydney has a seven point lead at the top of the table, with Beijing among the chasing pack behind. Regime change could be coming. But it won’t be easy, Beijing has a habit of putting together incredible winning runs at the end of season. Can Sydney hang on? We’re only at the halfway stage so there’s still plenty of games to come.
Whatever happens this season, it’s looking like the division will be more competitive in the coming years. Ankara has built a formidable and very young side, quarterfinal of the Wes Cup this season. Another young side is Johannesburg, coming from division two with an impressive array of young talent. Chlef are also overdue a divisional title, and have a team coming into their peak years.
The bookies still have Beijing as title favorites for the season, but the rebellion is coming, sooner or later.
